OVID Hexameter

Tasting Note

The 2018 vintage marked an incredible growing season. Evenly paced rains refreshed our vineyard as it slept during the first months of the year. A few warm days gently awoke it from its slumber in late March. April brought some of our biggest rainfall and set the stage for a luxurious growing season. Temperate weather filled the long summer days as the grapes slowly reached their full fruition. A short heatwave in early September brought on the relatively compressed harvest, starting the second week of October and finishing triumphantly just ten days later.

Poised and eloquent, the 2018 Hexameter overflows with notes of plum, black cherry, violets, pen ink and forest floor, giving way to aromas of cola, boysenberry, molasses and orange blossom. This wine possesses great heft and balance – power and levity that will continue to tell its tale for decades to come.

The 2018 Hexameter, OVID’s Cabernet Franc-based wine is stellar.

The 2018 Hexameter, OVID’s Cabernet Franc-based wine is stellar. It also shows just how stunning Franc is in these rocky red soils. Effusive aromatics and bright saline notes abound. There is a level of vibrancy to the 2018 that is impossible to miss. Crushed rocks, rose petal, spice, licorice and new leather are some of the notes that race out of the glass. All the best elements of this site come through in a stunning wine that dazzles from start to finish.

It's full-bodied, with an incredibly pure, seamless texture, polished tannins, and one heck of a great, great finish.

More blue fruits as well as blackcurrants, leafy tobacco, chocolate, candied flowers, and baking spices all emerge from the 2018 Hexameter, and it’s full-bodied, with an incredibly pure, seamless texture, polished tannins, and one heck of a great, great finish. While this is unquestionably a mountain wine, with a building sense of minerality, it has a rare sense of elegance and purity, flawless balance, and is just a heavenly, singular wine.
