OVID Napa Valley

Tasting Note

The 2010 vintage was an unusually long and cool growing season in Napa Valley. At OVID, this more European-styled season of delay rewarded our extraordinary patience and meticulous care, yielding strong and tender grapes that were optimally ripened. Harvest stretched late into the season, finishing just a day before the rains.

The 2010 OVID Napa Valley wine demanded the same combination of patience and devotion, and the wine itself was an ongoing revelation. Dense and balanced from the start, the wine’s eloquence and beauty intensified with each month of barrel age. First the berry fruit flavors came forward, then the more complex aromatics slowly unfolded–until at last it emerged as a vibrant, harmonious and exqusitely balanced expression of our Pritchard Hill terroir.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

An utterly vivid, breathtaking wine, the 2010 impresses for its incredible balance and overall sense of harmony.

Sweet dark cherries and plums are some of the notes that explode from the 2010 OVID. An utterly vivid, breathtaking wine, the 2010 impresses for its incredible balance and overall sense of harmony. Flowers of all sorts, sage and rosemary develop in the glass, adding tons of complexity. Today the 2010 is a little reticent next to the decidedly more exuberant 2009, which is quite typical of wines from Pritchard Hill at this stage in the evolution of these vintages. Power, pure vibrancy and intensity are the hallmarks of the 2010. This is another stunning wine from the team at OVID. I can’t wait to see how the 2010 develops in bottle.

Wine Spectator

A mix of power and restraint, this gushes with dark and red berry fruit, along with red and black licorice, gaining depth and smoothing out, showing its mettle on the finish, where the flavors are tapered, focused and long. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2015 through 2025. 416 cases made.

Antonio Galloni

The 2010 OVID bursts from the glass with an exciting mélange of dark red fruit, smoke, licorice and sweet spices. It is wonderfully perfumed and expressive from start to finish. The sheer depth, richness and volume in the 2010 is simply dazzling. I tasted the 2010 from a preliminary base blend. The potential clearly exists for this to be a truly special, thrilling wine. I loved it.
