Tasting Note

. . .
2016 Red Experiment C4.6 wine label

{ Background and Aims }

Clone 4 of Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic selection in California. Its path travelled from France, through Argentina and to UC Davis in 1964. It has been a favorite in Napa Valley ever since. Planted on the estate, we have a few different clones of Cabernet, and this clone 4 selection is our favorite as well. With the 2016 Experiment C4.6, we isolated and focused on this clone – to better understand what we enjoy about it and, as we plant a little more acreage, to determine if would we want more of it.

{ Methodology }

Following fermentation the Clone 4 Cabernet Sauvignon, lots were aged independently for one year. We then assembled a blend using a small portion of Petit Verdot with the Clone 4 Cabernet. This was aged for an additional 8 months before bottling.

{ Conclusion }

This wine confirmed our preference of this clone. It makes wines that are rich and powerful with a presence on the palate that is almost always totally complete on its own. It is rare to find such an unabridged expression in a single site, and when one does, it should be celebrated.
