2015

OVID Napa Valley Syrah

Tasting Note

The 2015 vintage was one of natural predetermination. Budbreak continued its streak of early starts and the summer was warm and beautiful, finishing with a hot flourish. The cumulative lack of rain of the previous 3 tears came to bear on the clusters if this vintage. The resultant yield was less than half our historical average. Nevertheless, the fruit that the vines did offer in 2015 was spectacular, deeply hued, and densely delicious, the wines from this tiny vintage are fresh, vibrant and profoundly compelling.

The 2015 OVID Syrah is opaque in appearance. Aromas of jasmine, vanilla bean, black cherry, blueberry, fresh violets, rose peal, wet stone, coffee bean and forest floor envelop you. There is compelling richness and tension within this wine that should play out beautifully for years to come.

Another standout, the 2015 Syrah is simply gorgeous.

Another standout, the 2015 Syrah is simply gorgeous. Silky, perfumed and exceptionally vivid, the 2015 is exquisite today. Naturally, the 2015 is very young and unevolved. Time in bottle will help varietal aromas and flavors emerge more fully. Overall, the style of the 2015 favors delicacy and finesse over the more bombastic style that was in vogue during the estate’s early days.
