The 2013 vintage was an epic year in Napa Valley - a year of remarkable alignment. The second year of drought started with an early and dry budbreak and set followed by a warm, long and seamless growing season. Harvest was impeccable too, stretching the length of September, allowing us a leisurely picking window and yielding expressive and utterly ripe fruit from each grape varietal in our vineyard.
The 2013 OVID Napa Valley is a wine of great intensity and profound flavors, a result of the long growing season. Sweet firm tannins are interleaved with blackberry and dark cherry fruits, espresso, spice and licorice to make a wine that is both uncommonly delectable and undeniably eloquent.

The wine hits the palate with a cascade of gorgeous fruit, sweet tannin, great delineation and acidity.
The 2013 Proprietary Red has an opaque purple color and a beautiful nose of blackberry, blueberry and cassis as well as hints of espresso, white flowers, and subtle background toast. The wine hits the palate with a cascade of gorgeous fruit, sweet tannin, great delineation and acidity, and a long, velvety, voluptuously textured mouthfeel. This big, inky, thick, juicy wine should age beautifully for 25-30 years.

This tasting reinforces my view that the 2013 is the most complete OVID yet. Dark, powerful and vertical in its sense of structure, the 2013 possesses terrific intensity, with a backbone of firm tannin that will allow the wine to age gracefully for many years. I wouldn't dream of touching a bottle before age ten. Vivid and exceptionally balanced, the 2013 OVID captures all the pedigree that is such a signature of this great Napa Valley vintage.
Decanter
A fresh and primary nose of crushed blackcurrant reveals lovely incipient complexity in the form of subtle tar and warm chaparral, introducing a fresh, bright and refined wine structured around layers of finely detailed tannins. This sophisticated bottling from the thoughtful Austin Peterson.
