The Heading
2022 marked the third consecutive year of low rainfall across much of the west and Ovid was no exception. Cooler temperatures and well-timed rains pushed budbreak back to early April, close to its historical average. The weather warmed slightly for bloom and set the vines up with perfect balance between canopy and clusters. Mild days in June and July passed without incident providing idyllic conditions for our fruit.
Early September brought a push of heat that hastened ripening. Experience and patience provided a steady hand as we waited for the fruit to reach its zenith. The vines too flexed their muscle memory and showed their resilience as they navigated the heat with great aplomb.
As mid-September brought perfect weather, we started picking our way through the estate, wrapping up at the end of the first week of October.
