Acclaim for 2018 Hexameter and Syrah
To be amongst good company and savored during rich conversations is an honor. In these settings, our wines are well-received by friends and critics alike. Their voices eloquently put into words what we have put into bottle. We’re humbled to share with you the words of Antonio Galloni and Jeb Dunnuck who each wrote about the 2018 OVID Hexameter and 2018 OVID Napa Valley Syrah and thank them for their support of our affair with Pritchard Hill.
"More blue fruits as well as blackcurrants, leafy tobacco, chocolate, candied flowers, and baking spices all emerge from the 2018 Hexameter, and it's full-bodied, with an incredibly pure, seamless texture, polished tannins, and one heck of a great, great finish. While this is unquestionably a mountain wine, with a building sense of minerality, it has a rare sense of elegance and purity, flawless balance, and is just a heavenly, singular wine."
“The 2018 Hexameter, OVID’s Cabernet Franc-based wine is stellar. It also shows just how stunning Franc is in these rocky red soils. Effusive aromatics and bright saline notes abound. There is a level of vibrancy to the 2018 that is impossible to miss. Crushed rocks, rose petal, spice, licorice and new leather are some of the notes that race out of the glass. All the best elements of this site come through in a stunning wine that dazzles from start to finish.”
"Coming from the estate’s tiny half-acre of Syrah vines, the 2018 Syrah was all destemmed and brought up on lees (it's never racked) in a mix of new and used barrels. Dense purple-hued, with a powerful nose of black fruits, smoked game, chocolate, bay leaf, and sagebrush, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, plush, concentrated mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Another singular wine from this team, it needs 2-4 years of bottle age but will have 15+ years of longevity. It's a thrilling wine."
“The 2018 Syrah is another wine at OVID that has really evolved in recent vintages. Floral and deeply spiced, the Syrah offers a compelling interplay of site and varietal character...Here, too, the picking earlier and less new oak yield a wine endowed with tremendous personality. The Syrah at OVID is always distinctive, as it is again in 2018. What impresses most is its translucence; power with no excess weight.”
